Digital Relationships

“Digital Relationships” - Obviously, everyone already knows what this blog will be about. Yes, relationships are becoming digital in today’s world as we all prefer to interact and gossip digitally rather than in person. Social media can even be regarded as the Saviour of today’s youth. Without Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, etc. no one can even imagine what their life will be like. They prefer to date and make friends in the digital world rather than in the real world. This is how relationships are becoming digital gradually and also it signifies the decline of social values and regular social bonds between people.

A relationship between two people strengthens only when they communicate and interact personally but if two persons prefer to remain behind the screen and only reveal their digital identity then in that case relationships and bonds will never be strong and valuable. Caring and loving will automatically vanish within a few days or you can say few hours.

Digital Relationships and Values

Relationships and values are complementary to each other and both play a significant role. One will value a relationship only if it is strong and reliable. In the case of digital relationships values seems to diminish with time as you can find no close connection with the concerned person and eventually, communication disrupts and the relationship ends. What we can see is that as relationships are becoming digital with time so bonds and values are vanishing and only a fake resemblance of values and friendship remains. But digital relationships also have certain positive aspects which are discussed below:

1. Keep connected with the other person

Relationships in the digital world can also be regarded as beneficial as one can stay connected with their beloved or close person anytime and anywhere. One can talk over the phone for a long period of time and feel like he/she is near to them. Also, video calls make one feel like they are sitting together and gossiping over a cup of tea. Therefore, social media can also be a boon to mankind in certain aspects.

2. You can share memories online

Social media platforms also enable you to share your photos, and videos online which can also be used as a place to store and share your memories. Digitally you can also share your memories with the person you want to rather than sending them a photograph via post. Social media has made it easy to celebrate your life with everyone from any part of the world.

3. You can learn about relationships from experts

To make your relationship strong and smooth you can also consult relationship experts which are nowadays easily available online and you can interact with them from your comfort zone. You can get a lot of information on social media from relationship bloggers, psychotherapists, and many others that highlight how to improve your relationship.

Apart from these positive aspects of a digital relationship, you can get to see the uncountable disadvantages of going digital in today’s world. Some of them are like:

●Digital relationships can give one unrealistic expectation that might not be true all the time.

●Digital relationships can also form jealousy which will eventually lead to some harm to a person.

●Digital relationships can also make daily life conversation less interesting because people are more inclined in chatting and gossiping online rather than talk in person.

●Digital relationships can distract you from spending quality time with your partner as both will be engaged in their phones and this makes their relationship dull and monotonous.

● Digital relationships can also affect one’s mental health to a great extent by leading to loneliness and depression.

Digital relationships, therefore, can make your life beautiful but at the same time, they can also make you lonely and depressed because social media keeps you away from all physical relationships. A lack of values and bonds is what defines Digital relationships.
