I was often struggling with things like academic excellence, fulfilling the expectations of my society, a pursuit to satisfy everyone or failing others around me out of fear. One day I realized that this constant pursuit of perfection was only making me frustrated and feeling less than average.
Self-acceptance is about knowing and embracing your true self. It is about relinquishing the need to try fitting in with other people’s ideas about you.
My journey to accept myself started when I realized I didn't need to be flawless to deserve affection and esteem. I began to see that my shortcomings, oddities, and imperfections weren't sources of embarrassment but distinctive parts of my identity. This new outlook freed me. It let me start to welcome my true self, including all my strong points and weak spots.
